Saint Michael is known by his timeless words in his
conflict with Lucifer - Mi ca el , 'Who is like God?'
Michael was famous as the protector of ancient Israel.
He is also the patron and most powerful guardian of the
Church.
Saint Michael has long been a favourite subject of
iconography, in both the East and the West. This in
large part stems from the strong belief in the power of
his intercession.
