| Friuli - The name Friuli is the Italian version for the name of Italy's northeastern most region. In the local tongue, this region is known as Friul. The people living in the region speak a distinct Romance language known as Furlan (Friulano in Italian). This language is one of the three languages that has been termed Rhaeto-Romansch by linguists. The name Friuli is derived from the Latin term Forum Iulii or Julian's Forum. This was the Roman name for the modern city of Cividale, one of the oldest cities in this region. |
