Istanbul - The largest city in Turkey, bordering the Marmara Sea and the Bosporus.  The name Istanbul is a derived from a Byzantine Greek expression eis tan polin, meaning to the city. Greek speaking Byzantines generally called medieval Constantinople "i polis" the city, since it was both the imperial capital and the most populous city in the Empire.
