| The Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, Saint John in Lateran, is the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of Rome. This enormous building is one of the most important churches in the Eternal City. Within the Basilica are housed some of the relics of Saints Peter and Paul, as well as enormous statues of all of the Apostles and a beautiful apse mosaic. This basilica was consecrated in the 4th century and remains to be one of the oldest churches in the western part of Europe. |
