| Malta is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and for this reason you are almost always within walking distance from the sea. The rocky beaches next to Sliema are quite popular places to swim. Still, local fishermen, like this fisherman in Anchor Bay, make thier livelihood through fishing in the Mediterranean Sea. |

| There are many small bays surrounding Malta with quite nice, though often crowded, sandy beaches. One of the most popular beaches is Golden Bay, to the right, while one of the little known sandy beaches is near the port city of Marsaxlokk in the southeast of Malta. |
