One of the oldest and most interesting sea festival takes place on the national holiday Victory Day, or Our Lady of Victories. This festival, known as the regata, is a traditional rowboat race and has taken place since the 17th century. Contestants race in the Grand Harbour, in between Valletta and the Cottonera. |

In Malta, spending time at the sea is a very popular pastime. For half the year, people flock to beaches to relax and swim. In the evenings, people will have picnics at the seashore. As well, boating and water sports, including diving, parasailing, and jetski riding are popular pastimes. |
