The city of Rabat, also known as Victoria, is the main city on Gozo and it dominates the island with its historic citadel. The citadel dates back to Roman times, though the current structure was restored in the 16th century after the walls had been breached in a raid Muslim corsairs, led by the notorious Dragut Rais.
